A district-level consultation meeting was successfully organized in Surkhet with the objective of forming and strengthening young human rights defender networks. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders including government officials, civil society leaders, and representatives from human rights organizations.
The consultation saw the esteemed participation of the Secretary of the Chief Minister's and Cabinet Offices, the Head of the Human Rights Department of the Chief Minister's Office, and the Spokesperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Karnali Province. Their presence and active engagement underscored the government's commitment to promoting youth leadership in the field of human rights.
Also in attendance were the Chairperson of the NGO Federation of Nepal, representatives from the Journalist's Federation, Dalit NGO Federations of Surkhet, and several other prominent civil society leaders from across the district. The participants emphasized the importance of empowering young people, particularly those from marginalized communities, to become active defenders of human rights and justice.
The meeting featured interactive discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing youth in human rights advocacy. Participants shared insights on strengthening collaboration between government and civil society, creating enabling environments for youth participation, and developing inclusive and sustainable human rights initiatives at the grassroots level.
