Advocating for Human Rights: Interaction Program Highlights

ROYM Nepal organized an engaging interaction program in Khalanga, Salyan, bringing together members of the Youth Human Rights Defenders Network Salyan and newly elected government representatives. This roundtable discussion served as a vital platform to raise awareness about the significance of human rights and to ensure they remain a central priority within local governance and community development.

The event was graced by esteemed community leaders and key stakeholders, who engaged in thoughtful discussions on critical human rights issues such as access to quality education, healthcare, food security, adequate housing, and the rights of women and children. The dialogue emphasized the urgent need for collective responsibility in addressing and preventing human rights violations, highlighting the essential role of both state accountability and active public participation.

Led by ROYM Nepal’s dedicated team, the program successfully fostered a shared commitment to human rights protection and advocacy. Key outcomes of the interaction included increased awareness among participants, a pledge from stakeholders to engage more actively in defending human rights, and concrete plans to organize community-focused activities. These include health camps and the distribution of essential materials to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and underprivileged children. Moreover, participants strongly advocated for the allocation of government budgets specifically dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights, marking a significant step forward in institutionalizing rights-based approaches in Salyan.
