District-Level Consultation in Kalikot Maps Young Human Rights Defender Networks

In a meaningful effort to strengthen youth participation in human rights advocacy, a district-level consultation meeting was successfully organized in Kalikot to map and support the formation of young human rights defender (HRD) networks. This initiative, held on November 20, served as a dynamic platform for collaboration among civil society organizations, youth leaders, and human rights stakeholders.

The consultation brought together a diverse and committed group of participants, including the Chairperson of the NGO Federation of Nepal, representatives from the Journalist’s Federation, the Dalit NGO Federation of Kalikot, the Human Rights Network, the Women Human Rights Network, and other influential civil society leaders from across the district. Their presence and contributions added significant depth and perspective to the discussions.

The event focused on identifying existing youth-led initiatives, understanding the challenges faced by young HRDs—particularly those from remote and marginalized communities—and exploring ways to amplify their voices and strengthen their roles in promoting justice, equity, and inclusion.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions that mapped local human rights issues, assessed community needs, and outlined strategies for building a more connected and resilient network of young defenders. The meeting also emphasized the importance of intergenerational mentorship, inclusive leadership, and the protection of those working at the grassroots level to safeguard human dignity and rights.

Key outcomes from the consultation included commitments to support youth-led human rights initiatives, stronger collaboration among stakeholders, and recommendations to integrate young HRDs into district-level planning and monitoring processes.
