Pradeep Ghartimagar, a 23-year-old youth from Bagchaur Municipality-4 in Salyan, has transformed his career from journalism to active human rights advocacy. With a Bachelor’s degree and training in Computer Operator, Pradeep began his journey as a local journalist. He worked with Radio Sharda under the Gramin Sanchar Kendra in post entitled Computer Operator and also served as a District Editor for the Community Information Network (CIN), where he focused on collecting and broadcasting local stories that highlighted deep-rooted social injustices.
His exposure to recurring incidents of violence, discrimination, and inequality stirred a deeper calling. Realizing that journalism alone was not enough, Pradeep joined the Young Human Rights Defenders Network and now serves as the District Secretary for Salyan. His dedication, motivation stem from a desire to actively engage in promoting social justice and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities, especially those whose voices are rarely heard.
Through his role in the network, Pradeep continues to address issues such as gender-based violence and child rights while promoting inclusive development. His plans include organizing awareness and capacity-building programs, especially targeting schools and community groups. He aims to strengthen collaboration with local stakeholders and use media as a powerful tool to report and monitor human rights violations.
Pradeep envisions a more dynamic and empowered human rights campaign. He expects the network and partner institutions to support young leadership, enhance members’ skills through targeted training, and foster strategic advocacy that influences policy change. His journey stands as a powerful testament to how informed youth leadership can drive meaningful social transformation in rural Nepal.
