Lalita B.K. age of 23 local residence of Pancchapuri Municipality-5, Babyachaur, Surkhet district, has emerged as a prominent advocate for human rights. Her journey began with her involvement in journalism and her association with organizations such as AAWAJ, BAS and INSEC. Through these platforms, Lalita has received extensive training and orientation on human rights and youth issues at the district level. Her commitment to social activities, combined with her exceptional skills in rapport building and coordination, has established her as a significant figure in her district.
Lalita's dedication to human rights was significantly influenced by the Youth Human Rights Defenders Network (YHRD) formation and orientation organized by ROYM Nepal. This program, focusing on the role of young people under 30 in promoting and protection for human rights, inspired Lalita profoundly. Her engagement led to her election as the Secretary of the YHRDN. This role provided her with the platform to address pressing issues such as domestic violence, caste-based discrimination, gender-based discrimination, child marriage, and unemployment. Lalita actively worked to mitigate these challenges by mobilizing the district-level YHRD.
Further enriching her experience, Lalita participated in the Local Convention of Youth organized by the Youth Action for Sustainable and ECO Nepal (YSEN) jointly UN, where she showcased exceptional performance and left a lasting impact on the convention. This exposure strengthened her resolve and broadened her influence in the field of human rights and climate change.
As Secretary of the YHRDs Network, Lalita has played a pivotal role in district-level promoting, protection advocacy and program participation. Her leadership and proactive approach have inspired many youths in Surkhet to engage in efforts aimed at fostering a more equitable and just society. Her contributions were highlighted at a significant event during the Karnali Province-level program held on International Youth Day, 2024. The event saw the participation of 60 youths from 10 districts across Karnali and was graced by the Honorable Karnali Province Social Development Minister Ghanashyam Bhandari. Lalita's presentation of her experiences and insights at this high-profile event further solidified her role as a leading advocate for youth and human rights.
