Asmita Basnet, a 19-year-old resident of Sharada Municipality-3, has become a prominent figure in Salyan District, known for her dedication to social issues and youth empowerment. Her journey began with her role as the Chairperson of the Sharada Municipal Youth and Adolescent Club. In this position, Asmita gained skills and insights through various training programs and orientations focused on youth issues within the community. Additionally, Asmita has been an active social mobilizer for the Adolescent and Reproductive Health Program, advocating for the health and well-being of adolescents in her locality. These initiatives aimed at educating young individuals under the age of 30 about human rights and their roles as defenders. The formation and orientation of the Youth Human Rights Defenders Network (YHRDN) were pivotal moments in Asmita’s journey. Motivated by these programs, she was selected as the Chairperson of the YHRDN in Salyan District. Asmita's education on critical issues such as domestic violence, caste-based discrimination, gender-based discrimination, child marriage, and unemployment inspired her to take an active role in combating these social injustices. Her leadership within the district-level YHRDN has been instrumental in raising awareness and advocating for the rights of marginalized and vulnerable groups in her community.
