We Are Young Human Rights Defenders

We exist because the voices of young people matter—and must be heard. Our existence is a response to the pressing need for youth-led advocacy, community resilience, and transformative leadership.

Young Human Rights Defenders (YHRD) is a dynamic and youth-led initiative established across all 10 districts of Karnali Province, Nepal. Born from the urgent need to amplify youth voices in the protection and promotion of human rights, YHRD stands as a beacon of resilience, advocacy, and community empowerment.

With a strong network of 450 active young HRD members and a total of 1,094 participants engaged in our programs and outreach, YHRD is committed to fostering a culture of justice, inclusion, and civic responsibility. Our vision is to build a society where every young person is empowered to defend human dignity, and our mission is to equip them with the tools, knowledge, and solidarity needed to lead transformative change.

YHRD is a movement rooted in the lived realities of Karnali’s youth, driven by purpose, and sustained by collective action.
